Asphalt Patching & Pothole Repair

When asphalt fails past the point of crack filling — potholes, sunken low spots, or that spider-web 'alligator' cracking — it needs to be patched. Rideau Sealcoating repairs damaged areas with hot-mix asphalt, the same material used to pave roads. We start by saw-cutting a clean rectangle around the failure and removing the broken asphalt down to a solid base, because patching over a soft or crumbling base just fails again. We compact and prime the base, then lay fresh hot-mix in lifts and plate-compact each one so the patch is dense and bonded, not loose. We feather and blend the edges into the surrounding surface so it sits flush — no lip to catch a snowplow or trip a foot. Where a low spot is pooling water, we build it up to restore proper drainage, since standing water is what destroyed the asphalt in the first place. Patching is the right call when a section has failed but the rest of the driveway or lot is still sound — it's far cheaper than tearing out and repaving the whole surface.
