Cracks are how a driveway dies. Once water gets into a crack, Ottawa's winter does the rest — it freezes, expands, and pries the asphalt apart until a hairline becomes a pothole. Filling cracks early is the highest-value repair there is. Rideau Sealcoating cleans each crack first, routing or wire-wheeling out the loose debris and dead vegetation so the sealant grabs clean edges. Then we fill with hot-pour rubberized crack sealant — heated in a kettle and poured in hot so it flows to the bottom of the crack and bonds on the way up. Unlike the cold caulk-tube products from the hardware store, hot rubber stays flexible through the winter, expanding and contracting with the asphalt instead of cracking back open. We do crack filling on its own or, more often, as the first step before sealing so you get a seamless, watertight finish. It's the difference between a driveway that lasts and one that crumbles a section at a time.
